OUR MISSION
At Samadhi Yoga our aim has been, and will always be, to create a sacred space in which to share the transformative magic of yoga in an effort to help everyone attain their original state of bliss, or Samadhi. Our mission is to be a spiritual resource center for the local community that is built around the practice and science of yoga as a means for creating more love, peace, and understanding in the world.
Samadhi literally translated means "transcendental bliss" or "ecstatic union". Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root "yug" which means to yoke or bind together. We like to interpret this as evidence of attaining a state of union between body, mind and spirit. The yoking effect of the practice brings the individuated components of self back into balance with the whole organism and the organism back into alignment with the cosmos.
Samadhi is the 8th and final stage of conscious evolution according to the yoga sutras of Patanjali first written down more than 2,000 years ago. Together these stages constitute a formula or code that when followed and practiced leads to the most profound human experience of transcendence or enlightenment. The 3rd stage is Asana, which is the primary component of most Hatha (movement) yoga classes and has received the most exposure to western practitioners. Ubiquitous as it is, this stage is no more important than any other, and in fact is often mistaken as the whole practice of yoga. Asana is just the tip of the ice-berg to self-knowledge, and in modern times has found itself to be the primary entrance point on the path to yoga for the western seeker. One needn't subscribe to any particular beliefs to receive the immense benefits of Asana practice it is a time tested recipe for repair, maintenance, and optimization of the physical body-mind complex. However, to unlock the mystery of your very essence, you must delve deeper into the remaining stage of conscious evolution as prescribed the the ancient rishis (seers). Find a teacher and get to work, because this is the most important work you can do, and there's no time to lose in this lifetime!
